UNESCO City of Literature
By designating Iowa City as a City of Literature, UNESCO has recognized Iowa City’s deeply elaborated cultural assets and its strong creative and economic foundations. Iowa City shares this distinction with only two other cities - Melbourne and Edinburgh.
IOWA'S FILM FESTIVALS
Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival
CRIFF screens films and videos with an Iowa connection and gives out the
Eddy Award for top achievers in several categories. This festival is
in its eighth year of operation.
ICE
Film Festival
Taking place in October, the Iowa City Experimental Film Festival
seeks films and videos that question cinematic conventions by exposing their
limitations, doing away with them altogether, or even demonstrating why they
might be useful and effective in the first place.
Hardacre
Film Festival
The long-running Hardacre Film & Cinema Festival began in 1996 as a project straight from
the hearts of film lovers local to the Tipton area in Cedar County, located in
Eastern Iowa. Festival films are screened in the classic art deco Hardacre Theater.
ICDOCS
Now in its seventh year, ICDOCS offers an
eclectic range of short
documentaries from around the world and brings documentary film/videomakers
to Iowa City to serve as judges. Mary Blackwood and Theresa Seeberger are co-founders of ICDOCS as well as co-founders of Landlocked Film Festival.
Iowa City Environmental Film Fest
A brand-new fest in 2008 to show films that raise awareness about and find solutions to global environmental predicaments.
Wild Rose Festival
Des Moines - A long-running festival in Iowa's capital.
Iowa Independent Film Festival
A Mason City festival featuring the work of independent pioneer Henry Jaglom.
